Technology is Changing Marketing
In this post, I want to share a new way to attract customers: optimizing your website for AI search engines like Perplexity, ChatGPT Search, and others. This approach is called LLM SEO, and I’ll share our strategies below.
1. Technical SEO Basics Stay the Same
The foundation of technical SEO remains unchanged. You should:
- Ensure fast website loading speed (especially on mobile devices).
- Properly set up meta tags.
- Fix broken or non-working pages.
- Implement schema.org support and structure your data effectively.
2. Build Trust and Authority
Trust remains a critical factor. Alongside technical optimization, focus on PR and increasing mentions of your website on other platforms.
- Add authorship to your articles: include your name, surname, LinkedIn profile, and other social links.
- If trusted platforms like Wikipedia, Crunchbase, or Forbes reference your company, highlight these mentions in your website footer or signature.
3. Match User Intent
Just like traditional SEO, your content must meet user expectations.
- Guide visitors through a content funnel from informational pages to conversion pages.
- Monitor metrics like time spent on site and pages per visit.
- Although AI tools don’t yet fully integrate with analytics, this will likely change soon.
Avoid creating content that lacks value for users.
4. Content Creation Rules are Changing
Search habits in AI tools are different.
- In traditional search, users might type: “SMM courses.”
- In AI search (e.g., ChatGPT), users might ask: “Recommend free SMM courses for beginners.”
How to Adapt Your Content:
- Explore how AI tools generate answers in your niche.
- Write content that directly answers user questions.
Include new structures in your content:
- Table of Contents
- FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
- Roadmaps (step-by-step guides)
- Bullet point lists
- Multimedia content (audio and embedded videos)
5. Testing and Improvement
This area has grown significantly, and automation solutions are still limited.
- Create a new segment in Google Analytics to track traffic from AI search engines. Use this regex query:
^.*ai|.*\.openai.*|.*copilot.*|.*chatgpt.*|.*gemini.*|.*gpt.*|.*neeva.*|.*writesonic.*|.*nimble.*|.*outrider.*|.*perplexity.*|.*google.*bard.*|.*bard.*google.*|.*bard.*|.*edgeservices.*|.*astastic.*|.*copy.ai.*|.*bnngpt.*|.*gemini.*google.*$
This will help you see how traffic from AI sources is growing.
- Test your content manually in AI tools.
- Expand your keyword strategy.
- Keep refining your content based on results.
I stick to my favorite principle: “Minimum effort, maximum results.” But achieving this requires testing as many hypotheses as possible.
