Master Telegram Privacy: Stop Spam and Protect Your Mental Health with These Pro Tips

Telegram has recently turned into a hub for spam. Here’s how I manage it for my media.

PERSONAL PROFILE PRIVACY

I don’t like handling work issues through personal chats. My team uses Telegram CRM and involves me only when necessary. My profile is almost completely locked. Here are my key settings:

  • Notifications:
Turned off “Show Notify from all accounts.”
  • Privacy and Security:
    • Two-step verification: ON
    • Phone number: Nobody (hides your number).
    • Last seen & online: Nobody.
    • Profile photos: Nobody.
    • Bio: Nobody.
    • Date of birth: Nobody.
    • Forward messages: My contacts (so only your contacts can forward your messages).
    • Calls: My contacts.
    • Voice messages: My contacts (add someone to contacts to enable calls).
    • Messages: Contacts and Premium (reduces spam, available with Telegram Premium).
    • Invites: My contacts.
  • My Profile section:
    • Username: Set.
    • Bio: Broad and informative.
    • Date of birth: Not filled.
    • Channel: Hidden.
  • New chats from unknown users:
    • Archive and mute: ON (this sends all new messages from strangers to the archive).

My Telegram is organized into folders: Work, Bots, Personal, and Projects.

TELEGRAM CHANNEL TIPS

  • Description: Include a link to a bot for consultations and a link to a chat.
  • Channel Type: Currently public, but I plan to make it private later. For now, I use the public link.
  • Chat connection: Link a discussion chat to your channel.
  • Reactions:
    • Disable emojis you don’t like.
    • Enable paid reactions: ON.
  • Administrators:
    • Add TGstat bot for analytics.
    • Add a backup admin for security.

TELEGRAM CHAT SETTINGS

  • Name and bio: Clearly filled out.
  • Group Type: Currently public, so there’s a public link.
    • Who can send messages: Only members (blocks suspicious users).
    • Approve new members: ON (lets you choose who can comment). Read more about bots and trolls here.
  • Permissions:
    • Disable “Pin Messages,” “Change Group Info,” and “Add Members.”
    • Enable “Slow Mode” (set to 1 minute).

Final Thoughts

Telegram is a great platform, but personal and work boundaries often blur. I hope my setup helps you protect both your privacy and mental health.
